A Summer of Shakespeare

This summer Imaginarium Theatre in partnership with the Shakespeare North Playhouse have teamed up with Michael Corbidge, Senior Voice and Text Director at the Royal Shakespeare Company and lecturer at Rose Bruford Drama School to launch our exciting new online drama school.

From our introduction to Shakespeare for adults, audition prep for drama school hopefuls and intensive CPD for professional actors, to fun and accessible Shakespeare Movie Maker courses for 7-17 year olds, there truly is something for everyone regardless of age or experience.

Following the Covid 19 lockdown, Imaginarium community actors past and present were invited to participate in an exciting online drama and film project working with Royal Shakespeare Company Associate Director Michael Corbidge and Imaginarium Artistic Director Gaynor La Rocca to explore Shakespeare monologues in domestic or lockdown settings and situations and develop skills in voice and text analysis.

Michael led the company through an 8 week exploration of voice and text on Zoom, whilst artistic direction, editing and media support was provided by Gaynor and the Imaginarium team. The outcome is an imaginative library of short films has been created by the community actors on their mobile phones. Click the link to view the films.

SHAKESPEARE’S

STORYTIME

This spring we had planned to launch a regular live programme of storytelling from our brand-new big top tent - the Imaginarium Roundhouse. Unfortunately, due to the Covid 19 crisis, we will have to wait until next spring to bring you our live programme.

In the meantime we decided to try a different way to bring you stories for our Summer of Shakespeare - 18 of our community actors have become filmmakers and have recorded an exciting collection of Shakespeare’s plays as fun and accessible stories for children and families.  Click the link to access our story library...

SEVEN AGES OF CARE

The Seven Ages of Care’ is a poetic film created by associate artist Holly Blue with Imaginarium Theatre, inspired by Shakespeare’s '7 ages of Man' monologue (from As You Like It) and community responses to a series of questions posted online about Care during

Covid-19.

This project was created for the Heart of Glass ‘Compendium of Care’ and is supported by Arts Council England, the Shakespeare North Playhouse and Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council.

ALL THE WORLD'S

A STAGE

In 2016 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, filmmaker Jake Ryan worked with Imaginarium Theatre to film the '7 Ages of Man' speech from As You Like It with a multi-generational cast of players made up of members of the community of Prescot – from shopkeepers to schoolchildren, town council officers, and mothers and babies, to the vicar of Prescot Parish Church.

The film was screened throughout 2016 as a semi-permanent digital installation in Prescot Museum and shared via partners websites and social media.

Midsummer Mischief

Imaginarium Youth Theatre have been working online with the Royal Shakespeare Company Associate Director (Voice & Text) Michael Corbidge and Youth Theatre Director Julie Ashurst to explore a comic speech from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as master of mischief Puck tells his master that ‘my mistress with a monster is in love!’.

Each member of the youth theatre then filmed themselves performing this famous monologue in various locations and their films have been edited together to create this brilliant celebration of Midsummer Mischief!
